Waffles with Spiced Brown Sugar Syrup

Waffles
- 1 cup self-rising flour 1 cup self-rising flour
- ½ cup white whole wheat flour ½ cup white whole wheat flour

Spiced Brown Sugar Syrup
- C&H® Dark Brown Sugar 1 1/2 cups 1 1/2 cups C&H® Dark Brown Sugar
- 2/3 cup unsweetened apple juice or cider 2/3 cup unsweetened apple juice or cider
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
Instructions
Waffles
Preheat waffle iron and lightly grease with oil.
In a medium mixing bowl, sift or whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar and salt.
In a small bowl, beat egg with milk then whisk egg mixture into flour mixture. Next, whisk in melted butter until batter is smooth. Let batter sit for 5 minutes before baking.
Ladle batter onto hot waffle iron. Cook according to waffle iron directions.
Spiced Brown Sugar Syrup
In a small saucepot over medium heat, whisk all ingredients together and bring to a boil. Boil for 5 minutes, whisking occasionally, or until it reaches desired syrup consistency. Hold aside until ready to serve.
