Preheat oven to 350°F. In large bowl, combine sugar and butter or margarine; beat with electric mixer until creamy, about 5 minutes. Add eggs, 1 at a time, blending well after each addition. Add vanilla, scraping down sides of bowl.

In separate bowl, mix together flour, baking powder and salt. Add flour mixture to butter mixture 1 cup at a time; blend until flour mixture is incorporated. Roll into 1-inch balls; place on ungreased cookie sheet lined with parchment paper.

Bake 10-15 minutes until bottoms turn light brown. Let stand for 5 minutes before removing to cool on wire rack. Frost with Buttercream Frosting for Cookies and colored sprinkles, if desired.

Ok the cookies came out great but what am I doing wrong with the frosting... I followed the recipe but it came out kinda grainy from the sugar what do you think I am doing wrong?

The frosting will not combine properly if the butter is not soft and beaten properly. The butter should be beaten to the point that it looks like frosting before the other ingredients are added. That will insure proper mixing.

Finally a soft sugar cookie the whole family loves! I didn't make the frosting, but rolled the cookies in colored nonpareils. The cookies came out soft, moist, and very festive! My whole family loved it, as well as my girl's softball team!
