Sugared Flowers, Leaves or Fruit

A safe and simple way to give flowers, leaf or fruit garnishes an attractive sugar sparkle.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon powdered egg whites or meringue powder
  • 2 tablespoons warm water
  • assorted fruits, edible flowers and leaves
  • C&H® Granulated Sugar

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine powdered egg whites and warm water in small bowl. Using a miniature wire whisk or fork, stir together until well mixed.

Gently dip assorted fruits (cranberries, grapes, strawberries, etc.) or edible flowers or leaves into egg white mixture until well coated. Gently shake off excess egg white. Lightly sprinkle fruit with sugar until well coated. Set aside on sugar-lined plate, paper towel-lined plate or metal cooling rack. If necessary, sprinkle with additional sugar. Let dry for 1 to 2 hours.

Be sure to use only pesticide-free edible flowers or nontoxic leaves when decorating and garnishing food.

Powdered egg whites or meringue powder are usually available at specialty food stores, cake decorating suppliers or large supermarkets.
