Hot Cocoa Mix
- 1 3/4 cups non-fat dry milk powder
- 3/4 cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
- 1/2 cup C&H® Pourable Golden Brown Sugar
- 1/4 cup C&H® Granulated Sugar
- 9 (8-oz.) jars with lids
- food-safe decorating markers
- peppermint hard candies
- brown card stock (for hat and buttons)
- ribbon for scarf, 1 to 2-inches wide
Hot Cocoa Mix
In a large bowl, mix dry milk powder, cocoa and both sugars together. Evenly divide among three 8-oz. jars; seal tightly.
For the marshmallow eyes, color one end of six marshmallows with a black food-safe marker.
For the marshmallow nose, draw a carrot on the end of three marshmallows with an orange food-safe marker. Place two eyes, one nose and a few plain marshmallows each into three jars. Position the carrot nose and eye marshmallows facing out the front of the jars. Fill jars completely with marshmallows.
Fill remaining three jars with peppermint candies.
For the hat, cut out three 6-inch circles of card stock. With each, trace the jar top in the middle of the circle. Cut small circle center out and slide the larger piece over the jar top as a hat brim. Cut a 3-inch wide strip of card stock lengthwise. Wrap strip around jar top to form the top of the hat. Glue or tape at seam of paper; trim off excess paper.
For the buttons, cut out nine small circles of card stock, or use nine actual buttons. Glue three buttons onto each jar front.
For the scarf, cut a length of ribbon to desired size. Stack jars as in photo; wrap the scarf around the jar tops where they meet. Tie and trim ends of ribbon.
Include these directions with each gift: Mix 1/2 cup hot chocolate mix with 8 ounces of freshly boiled water or warmed milk; stir until completely dissolved. Stir in 1 peppermint candy; add marshmallows.
